Tip 1: . Shake it off Shake it off
If you are anything like me, you will have about twenty different windows open bouncing back and forth between each application and document as you need it. PAIN....FUL!
Lucky there is a hidden hack within Windows that solves all your problems. Click on and hold the title bar of a program and give it a little shake with your mouse. All the windows in the background will minimise, while the window you are bouncing around will remain standing.
tip 2: Record Your Steps
No this is not "Fitbit" related. At Evolve IT we do a lot of "how to's" and "screencasts" for training documents. Luckily for us, this hidden gem has saved us lots of hours! "Steps Recorder" seems a little plain when you first launch it. However, it can record your screens and document steps taken to complete a task. The best part of this application is that it is totally free! From the Start Menu, click in the search bar and type “psr,” then press Enter. You will see "Steps Recorder" open, and all you have to do is click record. From there, simply work through your task, and "Steps Recorder" will record all of your steps taken.
tip 3: Retrieve Off-Screen Windows
I personally had this problem, and I have just sorted it out today. Sometimes when you are using multiple screens, your application and document windows can get stuck off-screen. It is a frustrating issue, and it seems that nothing you can fix it. Lucky I have found a simple keyboard hack to get around it.
Hold down Shift+right-click the taskbar button and choose the “Move” command. From here you can you the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the application or document back onto the main window. TADA!!
tip 4: Pin to Taskbar
Pinning to the Taskbar is a simplistic one, but it still comes in handy. Scrolling through the Windows 10 menu to open an app can be very draining. However, we can fix this by pinning our favourite apps to the taskbar. You can find the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, to the right of the Start Menu. If the program is already open, just right click on the logo in the taskbar and select “Pin to Taskbar.” You can also do this from the Start Menu by right clicking on the program name and choose the same option.
Step 5: The Action CentreBy holding down the Window key + A, you will launch the Action Centre.
The "Action Centre" is a great feature of Windows 10, and allows you to display all of the notifications you might have missed. You will also uncover some helpful shortcuts as well. The Action Centre gives you a way to toggle tablet and airplane mode or control your display settings. These options will depend on what type of device you have.
